THE ARTIDEX FOUNDATION

The Artidex Foundation is the nonprofit extension of The Artidex. It transforms the archive’s mission of preservation into direct, tangible support for the artists whose stories it holds. Through grants, creative resources, professional opportunities, wellness assistance, and community partnerships, the Foundation helps artists continue their work while it is still unfolding. Supporting The Artidex Foundation also sustains the work required to build and preserve the archive itself. Contributions help fund artist documentation, travel and production, Polaroid film and photographic materials, audio and video recording, archival storage and conservation, digital preservation, publishing, exhibitions, and the infrastructure necessary to make these stories publicly accessible for generations to come. These are not incidental operating costs; they are essential to accomplishing the Foundation’s mission.

Artists are navigating an increasingly difficult economic landscape. Rising costs, including housing, healthcare, materials, and studio space, make creative work harder to sustain, particularly when income is inconsistent or project based. A medical expense, broken piece of equipment, lost workspace, or gap between commissions can bring meaningful work to a halt.

Yet art is not peripheral to our lives. It is woven into the music we hear, the images we remember, the spaces we inhabit, the stories we share, and the ways we understand one another. Artists give form to ideas and experiences that might otherwise remain unseen. Their work colors our world, enriches our lives, and becomes part of the cultural record we leave behind for the next generation.

The Artidex was built to center artists, document them with care, return agency over their stories, and create a platform that serves the people it represents. Rather than extracting from artists in the name of preservation, we reinvest attention, resources, opportunities, and revenue directly into their work.

Preserving creative culture means supporting and empowering the people making it.

Every portrait, film, interview, and podcast episode helps an artist’s story reach new audiences. As people watch, listen, follow, and share, that attention creates opportunities for platform earnings, sponsorships, and partnerships. Revenue generated through Artidex media can then be reinvested into continued documentation, preservation, and artist support.

Artists share their stories. Audiences help those stories travel. That engagement helps support artists in return.

Artist Support Grants

The Artidex Foundation provides creative grants, professional resources, and wellness assistance to help artists navigate the practical and financial challenges of sustaining their work.

Milestone Grants

As the archive grows, artists are entered into randomized grant drawings:

25 Artists — $2,500
50 Artists — $5,000
75 Artists — $7,500
100 Artists — $10,000

Artists remain eligible at future milestones, giving earlier entries more opportunity as the archive expands.

Creative Investment & Community

Within our first five months, we have helped fund artists’ projects and contributed creatively by photographing cover art and tour-announcement visuals, as well as creatively directing music videos. We also support artists by purchasing their work and merchandise, licensing their illustrations, developing royalty-bearing collaborations, and helping facilitate access to studios, renting space for creative work, donating materials, equipment, transportation, accommodations, education, and other shared resources.

We continually seek new ways to reinvest in participating artists so they can sustain their practices and continue bringing their work into the world.
