A Polaroid preserves a fraction of a second. The podcast expands each artist’s archive entry beyond the physical portrait, capturing their voice, humor, memories, uncertainties, influences, and perspective at a particular point in their creative life. Together, the portrait and conversation create a more complete record of the person behind the work. Some episodes center on an individual artist and their story. Others return to groups of archive entries, tracing the unexpected connections, recurring ideas, and larger cultural questions that emerge as the collection grows.
The Artidex Podcast is a natural extension of the archive, giving artists the space to speak for themselves and creating a deeper record of the lives represented by each Polaroid. Through elective long-form interviews and conversations inspired by the growing collection, the podcast explores creative identity, artistic process, personal evolution, and the experiences that shape a life in art.
Artists in Conversation
The idea for expanding The Artidex Podcast beyond its original format emerged organically from the archive itself, as has much of the project. When Noah Boujikian, Entry #004 and a Director of The Artidex Foundation, stepped into the role of cohost, he led the conversation with Evan Steele, Entry #012. The chemistry, familiarity, and creative exchange between two musicians within the archive revealed something uniquely powerful: artists often speak to one another with a curiosity and understanding that opens entirely different paths of conversation.
That experience inspired a broader vision for the podcast. Future episodes may invite Artidex artists to interview one another or host special guests of their own choosing, including collaborators, mentors, friends, and creative influences who have shaped their work.
These formats are central to our mission of amplifying artist voices and creating new opportunities for self expression. By giving artists greater creative and editorial agency, the podcast becomes another medium through which they can explore ideas, represent their communities, expand their audiences, and create beyond the boundaries of their primary disciplines.
Through these artist led conversations, Artidex seeks to foster new relationships, provide meaningful visibility, and generate opportunities that can help artists sustain and expand their practices. The result is a platform shaped not only around artists, but increasingly with and by them when requested.
Meeting Artists Where They Are
The Artidex Podcast was designed to travel because Artidex is artist centered by design. We understand that artists often work within demanding and unpredictable realities, balancing creative practice with touring, commissioned work, employment, financial limitations, and personal responsibilities. Access to our platform should not depend on an artist’s ability to travel to a traditional studio, reorganize their life, or absorb additional expenses simply to participate.
Rather than asking artists to come to us, we bring the recording environment to them, meeting participants in the cities, spaces, and creative communities where their lives and work are already unfolding. Our compact, portable production system requires minimal infrastructure and can be assembled wherever a conversation needs to happen.
This flexibility allows Artidex to work around the needs of each participant, reach artists across geographic and logistical barriers, and create conversations that remain connected to the environments in which artists live, gather, and create. Artists should not have to reshape their lives to access the platform. The platform should be built to reach them.

Gina Frey Founder and Executive Director of The Artidex
Gina is a visual artist and emergency physician whose work is shaped by an enduring interest in memory, legacy, mortality, and the preservation of human stories. She created The Artidex to document artists and build a permanent record of the people shaping contemporary creative culture. On the podcast, Gina brings listeners behind the portraits and into the encounters, ideas, and relationships that continue to shape the archive.
Noah Boujikian Producer, Co-host, and Artidex Entry #004
Noah is a producer, creative collaborator, and one of the earliest artists documented by The Artidex. As co-host, he brings the perspective of someone who exists both within the archive and behind the conversations surrounding it.
Together, Gina and Noah examine the realities of creative work and reflect on the building of the archive.
